The support of the Uniting Church over the years to Christobel and in the regaining of the book's ownership by Aboriginal people was acknowledged. It was good to see many people from the Uniting Church present. So if you wish to learn something of the history of this state through Aboriginal eyes then this book provides a unique opportunity. It should be available from major bookshops by the time you read this. Pictured above: Christobel Mattingley and Major Sumner before the launch. See also the story in September New Times.

Covenanting

Survival In Our Own Land was published late as part of the celebration of South Australia's 150th Jubilee. It nearly didn't make it after years of work by author Christobel Mattingley and Ken Hampton. The voices of Aboriginal people were collected, their stories and photographs which weave a fascinating story of Aboriginal experience from 1836. Now in its 5th printing, the book was re-launched at Burnside Primary School on July 20th, 2008. Christobel told some of the story of how the book was sold along with Wakefield Press after its first printing and the struggle to get it back.
