Many people wonder why we have an opportunity to give (an offering) at SAYCO. Giving is an important part of being a Christian. We give regularly and generously as an act of worship to God. It is our response to God for His love and generosity to, and with, all of us. We believe that God is the greatest giver of all! He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we could fully experience His love. Our giving also meets the needs of others by offering financial care and support. We hope and pray that as you consider this offering (act of giving) you will always know God's love in your life. We let the young people decide where the offering will be spent. In 2009 it was decided to donate to the Samoa Tsunami Appeal and the Woodville Gardens school for refugee children in Guinea, and buy a donkey from World Vision. The SAYCO Exec were very inspired by Jessica Jackley's presentation at the Global Leadership Summitt this year, and have decided to spend a small amount of the offering supporting a company through Kiva. We have loaned money to the Los Fuerte 2 & 3 Group, whose project is clothing sales, you can read more about them here.
In 2008 it was decided to continue to sponsor Noli Tan Jr, donate money to the Ngarrindjeri children of the Kalparrin UAICC Community and UnitingCare Christmas Appeal.
In 2007 it was decided that SAYCO would sponsor a child through Compassion (Noli Tan Jr), purchase a Rickshaw and donate the rest to Samitan's Purse.
