Distribution of the cup at the Presbytery & Synod of UCA_SA November, 2008

Cups made by Pastor Berlin Guerrero and other inmates of the Cavite Provincial Jail near Manila were distributed by the Mission Resourcing Network to the members of the November gathering of the Presbytery and Synod of the UCA in SA in November 2008. One cup was available for each congregation. If your congregation does not yet have a cup, however, they are available from International Mission officers, Lyn Leane and Rev John Minchin, or phone 8236 4239.

Ideas for Lent 2009

The actual recycled newspaper cup can be used during Lent, to highlight the passion of Christ which is our focus in this Season, and the sacrificial nature of Christian serving and giving, of which Pastor Berlin's story is but one of thousands of examples. The cup is especially relevant for a Philippines focus, but can be used with the Oodnadatta and PNG project material also.

     The cup could be placed on the Communion table each Sunday in conjunction with images (power points, maps and posters) from these Lenten Appeal pages. 
  

     A display of Lenten Appeal posters here could be combined with the cup in the church foyer, church coffee lounge or other suitable place. 
  

     Project  the image of the cup onto the screen for a reflection time during a Lenten service.

        Link the cup with writings by and about Pastor Berlin
   

         Place the cup in a larger bowl or on a tray where you will also collect the 2009 Lenten Appeal  envelopes
 

     Theme the cup with the varying Lenten emphases of your Sunday or other services: the cup of life / grace / hope / love etc and link it with the Lectionary or other  readings during Lent.
