International Mission officer, John Minchin, was in contact with the North Luzon Jurisdiction with the following message on Tuesday September 29th, following the devastation of Typhoon Ketsana on Saturday September 26th. “Along with our national global mission agency, UnitingWorld, the South Australian Presbytery and Synod expresses its deep concern and support for the people of North Luzon in the floods that have had such a devastating effect in recent days. We cannot imagine just how much your people are suffering at this time, but we do want to express our solidarity with you and the whole church. We are able to make available immediately a donation of $5,000 AUD to assist in any relief project within NLJ that you suggest.” We were able to make this immediate response because of funds we still held for disaster relief, and from funds raised at the International Mission Op Shop, which operates two half-days a week at St Andrews by the Sea, Glenelg.
