Last year the Federal Government passed new legislation relating to Industrial Relations. The Uniting Church has had significant concerns about this legislation because of its potential to have a harsh impact on the most disadvantaged members of our community and for broader negative impacts on the lives of many families and individuals in Australia. This section of the website will contain information on the latest action taken by the Uniting Church in response to the Industrial Relations legislation.
Assembly Resolution on Industrial RelationsThe 11th Assembly in July 2006 passed a statement affirming that all people are entitled to just and equitable remuneration and conditions in their working lives and dignity in unemployment, and the importance of bearing witness to the social justice mission of the Church in our everyday operations. The resolution requests the Assembly Standing Committee, taking into account the past statements of the Church, to facilitate a national consultation to discuss a unified approach for the Church's own employment practices. A copy of the unconfirmed minute of the Assembly relating to this statement is available here
Work Choices UCA SubmissionIn November 2005, the National Assembly of the Uniting Church made a submission to the inquiry into the Work Choices legislation. To download a copy of this submission, click here |
