It is over 50 years since the nations of the world agreed on a Universal Declaration on Human Rights. In the years since then, sadly, humans have continued to have their rights abused, ignored and in some cases completely denied. The Uniting Church is committed to encouraging respect for human rights and supporting those whose human rights are being or have been abused. At the 11th Assembly in July 2006, the Assembly passed a statement, Dignity in Humanity, which sets out the church's commitment to human rights.
